The AI
for India 2030 initiative, co-hosted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information
Technology of India, the Office of
the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Nasscom and the World Economic
Forum's Centre
for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, India (C4IR India), provides a
structured approach to integrating AI across India’s socio-economic fabric.
Launched in alignment with the IndiaAI Mission in January 2024, the
initiative emphasizes ethical, inclusive and responsible AI adoption to
position India as a global leader in AI innovation.
Need for AI in India's development journey
AI is more than just a tool for innovation—it is a strategic
enabler for addressing India’s critical socio-economic challenges. From
boosting agricultural productivity to advancing healthcare services and
optimizing manufacturing processes, AI holds the potential to enhance
efficiency and drive growth, particularly in underserved regions.
However, significant challenges persist. India continues to
struggle with sectoral inefficiencies, skill shortages, and economic
disparities that impact its global competitiveness. Recognizing this, the AI
for India 2030 Advisory Council has emphasized the role of AI in bridging these
gaps, fostering job creation, and promoting socio-economic inclusion.
"India has an opportunity to create a trillion-dollar
digital economy by 2025, benefitting all sectors and people."
